Original equipment manufacturer Kubota Tractor Corporation is building on top of more than 25 years in the sub-compact tractor space by adding five new BX90 models across three trims to its portfolio, designed for property management and small hobby farms.
Back in 2000, Kubota revealed its first sub-compact tractors, which were designed as a hybrid between a garden tractor and a large-frame compact tractor, and featured a three-point hitch, a PTO, a loader, and mid-mounted mower, Matt McDonald, senior product operations manager for Kubota, told AgNavigator.
Kubota’s sub-compact tractors have gained a following and market share, with the company being the number one seller of tractors across classes for 20 years running, according to EDA/UCC equipment data for 2025.
Kubota has made several changes across the BX90 series, including enhancing loader capacity, adding operator comforts and controls, and improving mowing options with a 54- or 60-inch mower deck. The loader capacity on the BX90 series has expanded to 721 and 904 pounds for the LA355 and LA405 loaders, respectively. Additionally, the tractors are equipped with side-by-side HST pedals.
Available at authorized dealers starting early next year, Kubota’s new BX90 models include …
- The BX2190 is 19.3-gross-horsepower tractor that is consider the entry point into the series and comes with the LA355 loader.
- BX2390 Deluxe is a 21.6-gross-horsepower tractor that comes with electronically controlled PTO, telescopic stabilizer, and a LA405 loader,
- BX2690 Premium is a 23.9-gross-horsepower tractor that is “the most advanced BX model to date,” Kubota shared in a press release. The tractor comes with full-color LCD display, an electronically controlled engine, programmable engine-speed settings, and a throttle-up feature integrated into the joystick. The LCD display will provide operators visibility into the engine vitals, including load, fuel consumption, and any error codes that might pop up, McDonald noted.
- The BX2390S and BX2690S Premium both come with an automatic stabilizer lock, a BT604 backhoe, and a flip-up seat. Additionally, BX2690S Premium comes with the LA405 loader.
“Whether it be material handling, moving snow, mowing, [the BX90 series] is essentially a Swiss Army knife of a small tractor that really fits the rural lifestyle type customer very well,” McDonald noted.
This tractor launch comes after Kubota launched the Grand L70 Series last year around this time. Additionally, Kubota released its precision guidance system WorkSmart Autosteer for compact and utility equipment, having previously been available on larger ag equipment.
Kubota continues to leverage its presence in the smaller sub-compact tractor space to inform its broader market approach, McDonald noted.
“Kubota found its home within U.S. and Canada, starting with the smaller machines. So, the small tractors have always been Kubota’s bread and butter. And since then, our portfolio has broadened to include larger tractors now, construction equipment, and a number of other products that really help us establish a strong footing in the machinery industry and throughout North America,” he elaborated.
