Fertilizer giant Mosaic continues to deliver on its commitment to biological innovation, launching the enzyme-based crop residue treatment Renuvis Enzara — marking the sixth Mosaic Bioscience product launched in 2026.
Available for fall fertilizer applications, Renuvis Enzara is an “isolated and purified endoglucanase enzyme whose specific role is to break down those very large structural carbohydrates in residue, converting them into smaller chains [and] more readily available sugars that actually allow native microorganisms to break down residue faster,” Kip Jacobs, field solutions agronomist for Mosaic, told AgNavigator.
Farmers can apply Renuvis Enzara in the fall or spring and tank-mix it with fertilizer or herbicide applications at an application rate of 16 fluid ounces per acre and is designed for corn-on-corn acres, conventional tillage after high-yield crops, and no- or reduced-till systems, the company shared. The product can also be used in temperatures as low as 32°F, providing additional application flexibility, Jacobs noted.
“If you’re comfortable getting the sprayer out of the shed, the enzyme is going to work,” he emphasized.
Through trial studies, Mosaic was able to quantify the residue breakdown by measuring ash content and total digestible nutrients before and after a treatment with Renuvis Enzara, Jacobs noted. The company found a 5% reduction in organic material (i.e., the residue) and a roughly 5% increase in total digestible nutrients, he added.
The biological can also complement short-stature corn systems, where corn is grown more compactly thus producing more residue overall, he explained. Short-stature corn has emerged on the market in recent years, with Bayer, Corteva, and Stine Seed Company either offering these seeds now or working to launch them.
“On average, we see that 250 bushels of [short-stature] corn produces about five and a half tons of residue … anywhere from 8,000 pounds to 11,000 pounds of residue that needs to be managed per acre. And the direct answer to that problem is Renuvis Enzara,” Jacobs elaborated.
Inside Mosaic’s biological strategy
The release of Renuvis Enzara comes as Mosaic is seeing growing demand for its suite of bio-based crop inputs. Amid reporting a $273 million net loss in its second quarter of 2026 due to fertilizer volatility, Mosaic reported $25 million in net sales for its bioscience division, which it expects to double in 2026, as AgNavigator previously reported.
“Everything that we do at Mosaic is directly associated with increasing nutrient use efficiency. As a fertilizer producer, it would be very easy for us to just come out and say, ‘Well, you need to put more fertilizer on.’ That’s not the avenue that we’re taking, and that’s not the most responsible thing for us to do at any point, especially now in the economic situations,” Jacobs elaborated.
He added, “Whether it’s MicroEssentials or Aspire on the crop nutrition side, BioPath and PowerCoat for our fertilizer complements, and now Renuvis Enzara for biological crop residue management, every one of those directly associates with a problem at the farm gate. Whether that’s nutrient use efficiency [or] operational efficiency, everything that we’re trying to do is to get that crop off to a better start and give it season-long availability of nutrients to give it the best probability of success.”
